With the fast-growing use of the internet by various tertiary institutions in Nigeria; especially Universities and Polytechnics, there is now a need for every student to have at least an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card for making payment of tuition fees on the school portal.

Verve is issued by Nigerian banks and powered by Interswitch. The Verve is simply the new name of the InterSwitch ATM card. The different types of Verve cards include Verve Debit, Verve PrePaid, and Master Card Verve. The Verve debit card is the one linked to your savings or current account by your bank.

To have a personalized ATM card (Verse, VISA, or Mastercard), you need to first open a bank account, request for ATM card (of course some banks now issue this by default), and thereafter, follow the procedures in this manual to activate your card, get the pins and access necessary for making payments online in your school website or while purchasing e-books on Amazon, Kindle, etc. This you can do without having the need to contact your bank.

How To Activate Verve Card Online

The first step is to obtain the card from your bank, proceed to the ATM (in the same bank that gave you the card) to activate it and change your default password to any four-digit number you can always remember. After this, the next step is to enable the card for making payments online. And this requires an Interswitch Safetoken Service. Interswitch Safetoken Service is a system that generates a 6-8 digit One-Time-Password (OTP) whenever a transaction is initiated via the Interswitch Web Payment Platform.

Registering for Safetoken enables you to carry out transactions on any web merchant site that has integrated the Interswitch Payment gateway using a One Time Password (OTP) as a second level authentication process in addition to your Card NumberPIN, and CVV2 code. For you to be able to generate OTP for your Verve card whenever you are carrying out a transaction with it, you will first have to register it for the safe token service.

Steps to register for Interswitch Safetoken Code

  • Insert your Verve card into an ATM Machine
  • Input your 4-digit PIN and press Enter
  • Select your bank account type eg Savings or Current
  • Select the ‘Quickteller’ option from the ATM menu screen
  • Select ‘Pay Bills’ from the Quickteller menu list on the ATM screen
  • Select ‘Others’ for the bill payment menu option list
  • Enter ‘322222” as the Biller Code
  • Enter your Phone Number as the Customer Reference Number and select ‘Proceed’
  • You will get a display “Do you want to make this payment?” Amount Due: N1. (DO NOT edit the amount to be paid)
  • Click on “Pay amount due

You will then get a confirmation page indicating the registration was successful!

Making Payment of School Fees, Acceptance, Others

Now that you have your card activated, to make any school-related fee payment, just log on to your school application portal and follow their guidelines. When it’s time to make a payment enter your card details (Number, Expiry Date, CCV2). Some schools may require your ATM password too. After that submit and check your phone for OTP sent to you via SMS. Copy and enter the code in the space provided to complete payment.

We hope this helps! If yes, please share to appreciate us.
